Dear Parents and
Guardians,
After a few days of school,
your student has shown the type of behavior and study skills that
are appreciated by the staff and other students at Brier Terrace
Middle School. This year I am teaching Language Arts, and Social
Studies. I have enjoyed getting to meet the students and look
forward to knowing them. Each student will receive a copy of the
classroom rules for you to look at together. The following
information may already have been told to you by your child, but if
that is not the case, please read through the following
message.
Supplies needed are pencils and
erasers, blue, red or black pen, a spiral notebook and a binder.
For the Social Studies class, they also need colored pencils, and
glue sticks.
Homework is due at the first of
the period the day after is assigned. If it is a long-term
assignment, a due date will be given and should be written on the
calendar in their plan books. Late work will not be accepted,
unless it is a project. Students will lose 10% per day that it is
late. Absences should be completed as soon as possible.
Our emphasis in English will be
to develop the skills necessary to become an excellent
communicator. We will focus on literature, spelling, vocabulary,
reading, writing, and poetry. Accelerated Reader will be an
important part of each day. Please encourage a continuation of the
reading activities at home.
World Geography and Medieval
History are both the emphasis of the seventh grade Social Studies
program. Map skills, the development of the surface of the earth,
and the problems created by an ever-changing environment will be
explored. We will explore the ways that the earth’s
characteristics and different religions impact the people on our
globe.
Our behavioral goals center on
a respectful atmosphere to be practiced by both students and
teachers. Everyone is accountable. I am sure that you have many
questions beyond the scope of what is contained in this
letter. Curriculum Night is and excellent time to further
discuss these.
All of my students are
wonderful young people that have the potential to do whatever they
choose. I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Ann Marie Kellett
