Category Weight

Participation = 10%

            Participation points will be awarded based on in class activities.  We will have a warm-up activity each day as part of participation.

Homework = 20%

            Homework will be assigned every day but Thursday.  Each night, students should follow this checklist.

·         Review the concepts from that day’s class.

·         Add vocabulary to their spiral from that day’s class.

·         Complete the homework assignment.

Students will be expected to check homework and ask questions in class.  Each day, the students will turn in their homework and I will select problems to give feedback on.  Students will receive scores for homework as follows.

            10 points – homework is complete and all problems are correct.

            9 points – homework is complete and all but one or two problems are correct.

            8 points – homework is complete and all but three or four problems are correct.

            7 points – homework is complete and a few problems are correct.

            5 points – homework is incomplete.

            0 points – homework is not turned in.

Scores will appear in the grade book as a weekly score with notes on missing or absent assignments.

Spirals = (Geometry-15%, Math 7-25%)

            Spirals will be graded over the weekends.  Students will turn in their warm-ups, notes and vocabulary for the week on Friday and I will return the graded set to them on Monday.  These sets should be stored in the student’s binder until the end of the unit at which time the student may store them in the file cabinet in the classroom.

Tests/Quizzes/Projects = 45%

            Tests will be taken at the end of each unit.  Students will be given class time and homework time to study.  If a student does poorly on a test, they may retake the test once during study club in the same trimester as the test was given.  I will keep the higher of the two scores.  Quizzes will happen once or twice during a unit.  If a student does poorly on a quiz, they may rewrite the problems that they missed and receive half credit for those problems.  Project guidelines will be established with student input as each project arises.

Final Exam = (Geometry Only 10%)

            The final exams will happen once per trimester and cover the material from the entire year, up to that point.

Extra Credit

            Extra credit opportunities will happen at least once per trimester.  Any extra credit given during the year will be allotted points as it is assigned.  Extra credit will always be above and beyond the normal curriculum.

Supplies

            Please make sure that your student has the supplies listed in the student planner.  We have a class set of graphing calculators that we will use throughout the year.  In high school, students may need a graphing calculator of their own, for now a scientific calculator is sufficient.
