Mr. Shipman's
Newsletter
November 16-20, 2009
Dear Parents,
Please sign the
permission slip required for students to participate in the Seattle
Children's science mobile lab coming to the school on
Thursday, Nov. 19th. The students will be learning about the
respiratory system. I visited the mobile lab when it was
here at the school earlier and I was amazing. I think
this will be a great experience for the students.
I wanted to give you an update on my mom. It has now
been determined that she does not have breast cancer, but rather
melanoma, skin cancer. Instead of it growing outside the body,
it is growing inward. Mom’s oncologist is not familiar
with this type of cancer, so mom is scheduled for a consultation
with a melanoma specialist in Seattle on November 30th. She is
feeling fine, and living her life as if nothing is
wrong.
I will be off next week since I will be
on a family vacation to Disneyland. Mrs. Ross, a former
teacher here at MLE, will be substituting for me. I will also
be off on the 30th so I can be with mom for her doctor's
appointment.
The students have until November 23rd to sell as many
holiday wreaths as they can before they have to turn in their forms
with the money. Remember 40% of what a student earns will go into
his/her Outdoor School account. The top seller in each class will
win a prize and the class with the most sales will receive a party.
So, Go Shipmates!
The students have some big projects under
way. One is the Newbery Award winning book report. The
templates for the report have arrived from the print shop and are
available for the students when they need them. The
requirements on the documents page. The report is due on
December 15th.
Another project is the picture storybook.
Students must plan out their books first before they use one
of the blank booklets or good printing paper. The book is due
on December 4th.
