Welcome to
Mr. Haeckel's Web Site!

"Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each
of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the
total of all those acts will be written the history of this
generation."
Robert F. Kennedy
Welcome to
American History!
While developing a knowledge base of
content is an important part of learning history, American History
will have a heavy emphasis on developing understanding of major
concepts, or enduring understandings, (e.g. social, economic, and
political conditions created the desire for expansion), as well as
processes and skills such as: the research process, determining the
validity of sources, recognizing different perspectives,
comparing/contrasting issues, people and events.
Through interrogating eyewitness
accounts, examining clues, and searching for evidence, students
will develop critical thinking skills (analysis, synthesis,
evaluation) and be better able to interpret and conscientiously
impact the world around them.
Students will demonstrate mastery
of both content and concepts through a variety of mediums, ranging
from but not limited to: simulations, tests, debates, group and
individual projects, socratic discussions, and multimedia
presentations. To
promote a more empowering, student-constructed learning experience
there will be a significant emphasis on collaboration.
